FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
It really depends on the length of the book and the amount of attention required for each page of the manuscript. I will charge a flat fee instead of charging per hour. My average price is $800. Granted, if the book is short, I will charge less, and if the book is longer, I will charge more. I will communicate with the author before taking on the project about the exact price. My goal is to have a book back to the author in 2-4 weeks.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I typically work via e-mail with writers. I don't mind contacting writers by phone, but I know most writers typically prefer e-mail as it corresponds better with their schedules. I'll chat with writers and find out information about their book. If it sounds like I would be a good fit for what they are looking for, I will accept the job and ask them to send me the book in a Word document. I use track changes in Word to show the changes that I would like the writer to make. If I have a question about the writer's style or a concept that I think is confusing and needs to be remedied right away, I will e-mail the writer to figure out what they would prefer to do. My goal is to have their book back to them in less than a month. I like to stress that I am always available for writers to contact. If I am unable to answer the phone, then please feel free to send an e-mail and I will get back as soon as I am able. It never takes me longer than a few hours to respond.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I recently graduated from Georgetown College with a Bachelor of Arts in English. I also completed a creative writing emphasis with my major. I was an assistant editor for the "Georgetown Review" for four years. I was a copy editor, managing editor, arts & entertainment page editor, and editor-in-chief on the college's newspaper, "The Georgetonian." I am currently an associate editor for Apex Publications. I also do free lance editing work.
