- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I start with focusing on the immediate need of the student (current lessons, homework, studying for tests, etc.) As I learn more about the student's strengths and weaknesses, I find what practices work best in helping the student learn. Once we "fine tune" studying and mental habits, I then focus on teaching the student how they can identify what specific issues they have, WHY, and how they can train themselves to overcome them.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I started tutoring when I was in high school. Because I had done very well on the recent tests, I was given the opportunity to help other students after-school for extra credit. After seeing how much I had helped my fellow students, my teacher had suggested I start doing it privately. Ever since, I have constantly been challenging myself to teach more and more. I'm very proud to say that over the years, I haven't done much advertising. An overwhelming majority of the students I tutor come from "word-of-mouth" referrals. Because of my approach, students see results almost immediately. Over time, as their grades continue to rise, they learn how to consistently improve on their own mentalities and study habits.
