FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
$50 an hour with a 2 hour minimum. I do not charge extra or mark up the price of materials. The customer either purchases the materials or Firehouse Home Repair will be reimbursed. Original receipt given to customer.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Establish an agreed price or estimate on day one!! Unfortunately I had to learn this the hard way and won’t make that mistake again. Do not even lift a screw driver unless you have set the price, estimate, completion time, budget for materials and any extras. Establish the money matters up front this will save a lot of headache and problems. I cannot stress this enough.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
As a fireman I quickly learned the importance of problem-solving, troubleshooting, adapting, overcoming and the knowledge, skills, and ability to work with a number of different tools and applications. I became a Carpenter initially as a way to pay for college and the off-season while I was fighting forest fires for CDF now known as Cal fire. I really enjoyed the work and took to it very quickly.I enjoy fixing things and taking something that is old, ugly and beat up and make it vibrant, functional and beautiful. Truth is I was fixing, installing and repairing things for friends and family for free. I figured with all this skill why not make some money and have some fun.
