Introduction: I was orphaned as a young child in California and went from foster home to group home to run away and all that comes with that, unfortunately. Fortunately though, I pulled through after the birth of my daughter. I went on to work hard, climb and become a very successful corporate account executive with a large, recognizable telecom company. It was during this time I became addicted to prescription narcotics after an accident and life stress. As my addiction progressed, I wrote 100's of prescriptions and did some things that the former me would've never imagined. I ended up losing everything. After caught up in the criminal justice system, my adult daughter began abusing opiates and shortly thereafter, she lost her life. Profiled in FBI'S,#CHASINGTHEDRAGON, Public speaker, consultant and writer... I will not glamorize or sugar cost the truth, yet I do so without profanity. I engage well with youth, having never forgotten how the experience affected me and the struggles my daughter faced. However, I also engage as well with parents and family to help mend the confusion and pain, to cause accountability and eventually, forgiveness. Saving lives and changing perception by education. Katrina is an eloquent speaker. She is honest, and compassionate, sympathetic, and caring. She has been through so much of what us (addicts) suffer through, and has come through with her dignity and grace. Katrina is very approachable, and is able to speak to a variety of audiences. There is so much for the public to learn about addiction and we need a leader who will tell it like it is but also have a sympathetic, and compassionate heart. I'm so very grateful I have crossed paths with Katrina and I look forward to continuing my friendship with her. She is most definitely a survivor and has so much courage and strength. She has had to overcome so much throughout her life, and many times whenever a person is faced with all the trauma and loss that she has, they are bitter, angry and resentful. Although I'm certain she has felt all of these emotions and more, she does not wallow in self pity, anger and negativity. As a woman in recovery I am so grateful for her.

Helping families achieve and live recovery have one common path to that goal and that is education. The positive impact of education on families and addiction recovery is incredible. Good things happen when you educate the family on what addiction and recovery really look like! An addict speaks is really making a difference on educating families not just bringing awareness.
