Caroline Devlin

Introduction: I am a 23 year old college student. I have a degree in Early Childhood Education from Montgomery College which also provided me with lots of experience teaching and nurturing children up to age 8. But I also have hands-on experience working as a camp counselor for children age 8 to 15 at a camp in Bethesda, Maryland called TIC for three summers. I instructed them in math, technology and athletics, specifically tennis lessons. While I was in school at Montgomery College, I taught Sunday school at my church to preschool aged children for four years. I really enjoy working with children but I am excited to start working with middle school and high school kids and young adults. I am still a student myself at UMBC and I think that aspect of my life right now will help me tutor and teach other people because I know what studying techniques help me and my classmates. Also it provides me with a lot of resources and help with my students because my teachers are the best because they teach teachers. I know how hard it can be to understand concepts that seem impossible at the time, I have the patience and I am open to all types of instruction. I know that studyimg can be tedious so I try to make it fun and interesting for my students by using hands-on techniques. I love to work with people, all kinds of people. I think that learning needs to be specific to the individual student. That's why tutoring is so important because you cannot get the specific instruction and attention you need from just the instruction you recieve in the classroom. Learning in the classroom is generalized for all of the students in the class and tutoring can give you the specific instruction you need for full comprehension. I am passionate about tutoring because it gives me the opportunity to learn more about teaching which is my life ambition.
