My name is Roy and I was a police officer for 15 years in the state of Louisiana. I found myself drinking, uncontrollably, in the mornings, all day, into the night and whenever I was awake, and not at work. It didn't bother me any, but it bothered everyone else around me in ways that i didn't realize. I lost family, friends, wives, and potential wives. It didn't seem to bother me. No one knew that the job I had ,was taking a toll on my mental stability. I didn't even know. There were times that I would explain to my spouse that I just didn't want to be sober. It took to much out of me. Constantly going over and over in my head that days events, and what could I have done to have changed the outcome of what ever it was that I was involved in. There was two shotting incidents, on duty. Two shotting off duty where I came under fire, and was struck by gun fire, multiple deaths and so on. My solution was to self medicate. I left the department in 2005, and brought my troubles with me everywhere I went. Relationships included. And everything that goes with that. Children, wife, cars, houses, you name it I lost it, but got away with my life. December 11 2018 I addmited my self into a rehab. I went through group, I had session with doctors, I was learning about myself and I learned what addiction is but I always felt that it was something else. Until one day I was in a class being given by Anika, and as always I wondered off in thought, we took a break, when I came back into the room I noticed Some wording on the board that she had been speaking about and it was like... that's it. I couldn't believe she had written those words sraight from my thoughts. She was in my head. We communicated several times since and I think she saved my life because I had no clue, how to put it into words why I was drinking so much. Why was I so isolated, why didn't I care. She underlined PTSD!! Thank you...I have since started a business and living in the Sunshine State of Florida. Thank you Anika!! Your a God send!!!
