FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
$30 for a half hour lesson, or $60/hour. I see a lot of students that are looking for 45 minute lessons. I do not see this as beneficial to learning an instrument. If a student is looking for 45 minutes, they might as well go the full hour. That indicates to me that they are willing to dedicate time outside the lessons to practice in order to improve at a steady pace. I am willing to negotiate price dependent on whether the student travels to me or I to them, and also dependent on how far the travel is. I also consider discounts for families with more than one person taking lessons from me after they have been with me for awhile and are progressing well and it is evident that they intend to continue studying with me.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I have the customer play a few things for me so that I may evaluate them musically and see where they are. Then I will let them know which musical book or books to purchase in order to continue with the lessons. If a student has never played before and/or cannot read music, I will provide the student with the name of a book to purchase for lessons and start at the very beginning. Once they have the book, we can begin to schedule lessons. For beginners as well as for all students, I recommend weekly lessons.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
38 years of musical experience. Music major at Towson University. Have previously played with Baltimore’s Marching Ravens and the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. BS degree from University of Baltimore. I also have played with multiple community bands and have a 25 year history of playing in the orchestra pit for my high school’s theatre department, the Institute of Notre Dame.
