FAQs
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Extraordinary Ability applications are often complicated and time-consuming. During our initial consultation, Coan Law Offices will review your portfolio and supporting materials (awards, tear sheets, publications, exhibition invitations...) to determine whether you meet the qualifications for a visa or green card based upon extraordinary ability. We will assist you through every step of the process by compiling the best evidence to document your extraordinary ability and using our experience and expertise to assemble the most effective application showcasing your talents.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
In 2007, a good friend and fashion student at Fashion Institute of Technology asked for help in obtaining an artist visa. Towards the end of the process, we realized that his petitioner would not be able to petition for him. As a last minute solution, we converted the application from O-1 (requires petitioner) to EB-1 (can be self-petitioned) and obtained a green card for this friend. It was then that I realized I could combine my professional training as an attorney with my passion for the arts into a rewarding and stimulating career.
- What types of customers have you worked with?
I have worked with all types of fine and commercial artists over the past decade. My first client, Kooan, went on to star in Project Runway, a fashion design competition show. You can see his and other clients' work on our profile.
