I am a trumpeter, singer, songwriter, bandleader and educator originally from Connecticut and now based in Salt Lake City. For the past ten plus years, in addition to earning a bachelors degree in commercial music, I've performed internationally aboard multiple luxury cruise lines, worked with some of America's premier party bands, been featured on major shows on the Las Vegas strip, and led many of my own successful projects in Salt Lake City. I’ve attended gigs where Tom has organized the music and performed and talk about being able to enjoy the party without worrying about the music! If you want him to be the focal point of the party he’ll do that. If you want him to be part of the background, he’ll do that. His flexibility and customization is what really sets him apart from others in his field. The music is quality, price is reasonable, and he brings only positive energy.

Tom Young and his group of 3 others played at my wedding reception in Salt Lake City—the live jazz music and the dance-party DJing made all the difference in taking our wedding from good to AWESOME. Tom was super easy to work with in putting together a set list for my reception. I could do as little or as much as I wanted. Tom did the bulk of the work and I just requested my list of ‘must-have’ songs. He was even so flexible as to accompany my sister-in-law who sang a piece as a last minute (day-of) request of mine. Tom is so talented that he can fulfill a request like this and make it seem like they practiced for weeks. The music that was played for the bulk of the reception was jazz. I wanted to fit in a dance party at the end and Tom went into DJ mode. He read the energy of the dance floor—transitioning to a different song when the energy died down on the song that was playing (per my request). Would definitely recommend Tom Young.

Tom brings the best out of a live music experience. His sound can be intimate or energizing. The musicians he uses to round out his ensemble are all top notch. No matter what your occasion is, Tom Young is a solid choice for your music. My favorite songs to listen to are the ones from the Great American Songbook, but my daughter loves his jazz improvisation. We need him back in Wisconsin more often!

We hired Tom for our wedding. He was very responsive and considerate of our needs. All the band members were professional. He ended up being the MC pretty much. He was flexible with little changes we made during the wedding. Plus, the band was incredible! All our guests commented about the band.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I charge $30 for a 30 minute lesson and $50 for 1 hour.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I love teaching brand new students, whatever their age may be. With new students I like to get a feel for what they want to learn, why they're interested in the trumpet, and how dedicated they are to practicing. The first lesson will also help us decide what method books will be necessary. As a teacher I know that each student is different, and my goal is to meet the individual needs of every one!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a bachelors degree in music with an emphasis in commercial music from Snow College. I have also (more importantly) been working professional on the instrument for over 10 years.
