FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Although I can work on an hourly rate for a small, short engagement, I prefer to work on a project or retainer basis. Most of my consulting is for ambiguous issues that are not always straightforward so the retainer arrangement has worked best for many clients. For a retained engagement, I will block out a guaranteed amount of time (ranging from half-day per month to multiple days per week) which is dedicated availability (on-site or off-site). In addition, retained engagements include unlimited email and phone support on an as-available basis outside of the guaranteed time. Projects are quoted with a fixed scope and lump sum fee with any scope changes charged as change orders. Hourly: $250/hour Retainer: $1500/month for one day per month; $5000/month for one day per week; discounts available for larger or long-term guaranteed engagements. Retainers are paid in advance on a monthly basis. Project: Depends on scope
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I like to have one on one time with the client to really get to understand their business and what their goals are personally and for the business. Many times, the issue at hand is only a symptom of a deeper issue that must be addressed in order for the business to move forward.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have two engineering degrees and an MBA. My experiences have ranged from small service businesses to Fortune 100 product businesses. I've started and sold my own business and have worked in multiple startups as a C-level executive. I am somewhat industry-agnostic, having worked in aerospace, renewable energy, precision agriculture, architecture/engineering, government contracting, facilities management, and social web. I have led and integrated acquisitions, global organizations, multi-site organizations and P&L's up to $70M.
