Nancy Walker is a FLDOE certified teacher with more than 25 years serving the community as a humanitarian and educator. She is currently an elementary school principal, tutor, trainer, and life coach. She specializes in 3 distinct areas: Life Coaching for adults and children, ESL tutoring/teaching, and academic tutoring with focus in the areas of Dyslexia and reading comprehension (Orton-Gillingham trained).
She is a former American Red Cross Disaster Volunteer (Team 911 member) and the founding principal of a high performing, top 100 elementary school in Florida. She was a career changer in mid-life and due to her positive outlook, organization, and dedication to others she rose quickly to a leadership position. She believes that she has been given a gift and must share that gift with others.
Her down-to-earth and respectful approach has made her successful in all endeavors of life. She understands that rapport is essential for success whether it be public speaking, life coaching, or tutoring. Respect is essential is all venues and when it comes to coaching and/or tutoring it is also essential that the coach/tutor understand the client's culture and needs prior to beginning a relationship.
As a life coach, she is able to reach others during transitional periods of life. She helps them reach their highest potential by assisting them to tap into their own abilities. Sometimes a coach helps a client realize potential they never realized they even had! She assists individuals and families through (and over) the "humps and bumps" of life changes like divorce, birth, relocation, career change, difficult relationships, dealing with social anxiety, and remarriage.
Life coaching is not a substitute for therapy, but there are many times in life that the "layers don't need rolled back" but the client needs assistance maneuvering through a difficult time or discovering their hidden gems. Individuals, including children and young adults, sometimes need 1:1 time with someone that will coach them when they need a little help understanding situations, learning to advocate for themselves effectively, empowering themselves, learning life skills, or making life and career choices. Parents often benefit from the assistance of a coach to help them understand their child from another perspective and assist them in understanding the best techniques for their child. A life coach, such as Nancy, can help individuals from all walks of life. Her educational background can assist parents in understanding the accommodations on an IEP or 504 and how to effectively support and advocate for their child. She can assist those children with many of the difficulties their disability has made them encounter.
As an ESL teacher to both children and adults, she has taught students from beginners through advanced to learn the difficult language of English by using interesting and varying techniques to help them understand and speak their new language. Her methodology uses Principled Eclecticism – which is to fit the best method to the learning style and needs of the student. This could be one of 5 different approaches depending on what best suits the learner. She is available to teach up to 5 students in a group setting.
Children with Dyslexia and high functioning autism need specialized instruction that is often not found in the regular classroom. Being trained in, and using the Orton-Gillingham (OG) methodology, and working in education on a daily basis, gives Nancy a unique perspective with children (but especially those with Dyslexia) and high functioning autism.
Having entered her 8th year as an elementary school principal that believes in behavior modification through understanding rather than simply discipline, she works with children to modify behavior through social skills. She finds that working with children and families to be rewarding in that rapport and trust are built. When working with children, she finds the greatest satisfaction is finding the best methods to tap into a child's motivation, whether it be the reason that motivates them to learn or behave in a particular manner. Tapping in to a family and seeing an "AHA!" moment is monumental!
When working with adults and seeing the learn something new about themselves creates a sense of pride in Nancy. Helping others through difficulty, whether it be learning a new language in a new land, learning to read without struggle, learning social skills, or learning to understand one's self in order to find true happiness and success makes her the happiest!
As a life coach, helping someone reach an "Aha!" moment and reaching a "shift", finding their decision, or making their way fills her with a sense of achievement not only for the client, but herself as well.
She is a humanitarian that believes, “Happiness in ourselves comes from helping those around us and we are put on this planet to help one another”.
