Introduction: I'd like to help others learn how to play piano and/or sing, understand music theoretically, and express themselves through song. I began taking piano lessons myself when I was 6 years old. I hold an Associate's Degree in Jazz Studies (for piano), under which I also studied 3 semesters of classical piano, 6 semesters of music theory, and 7 semesters of voice. I sang tenor in the DownBeat Award-winning vocal jazz group, American River College Vocal Jazz Ensemble. I also hold a Bachelor's Degree in Music Industry Studies from CSU, Northridge. Billy is an extremely pianist and singer songwriter. He is intuitive and patient as an instructor. If you want someone who cares that you learn what you want to learn, Billy is person for the job! Reasonable rates too. You definitely get your money's worth.

I hired Billy to teach me how to play piano because I had always wanted to learn, but I didn't want anything too formal. It was really just for fun. You can tell he really knows what he's talking about, and I feel like I learned a lot through my lessons with him. He almost felt like more of a friend than a teacher, which I liked. You'll learn how to play songs (he let me choose what interested me most), read notation, and also just understand what you're doing musically. I couldn't continue lessons because I started a job that interfered too much with my schedule, but I highly recommend Billy to anyone who wants to learn piano, or music in general!

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I prefer to work with anyone who has no background in music and would like to start learning for fun, or someone with very little experience. We'll begin by me getting to know your music goals, favorite styles, and what your expectations are. From there, I'll be able to help with a number of topics that include technique, reading and understanding music notation, harmony, ear training, and more. We can apply many of these with specific songs.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have an Associate's degree in performance (piano and voice), and a Bachelor's degree in Music Business.
