Introduction: Performance: I perform solo, with my 7-piece band, and with my RebbeSoul Power Percussion trio. The music is Jewish roots and world music, appealing to world music audiences everywhere as well as Jewish and Christian audiences. We feature Russian balalaika, Spanish guitar, Middle Eastern percussion, flamenco cajónes, soulful vocals, and electric guitar. I have been on CNN International and the cover story of Billboard Magazine. My 1995 album , “Fringe Of Blue,” has become one of the the biggest selling Jewish music albums of all time and my “Change The World With A Sound” album was #1 on the CMJ (college radio) World Music charts. There are five RebbeSoul album releases to date.
Production: My aim as a producer is to always bring out the best in the artist. Each artist is unique so my approach to helping them is different every time and tailored to their specific needs and individualities. Often, singers will come to me after spending time with a vocal coach and I work with them as the final step, perfecting their performance in the studio and even on stage. My own music has been on radio and licensed to film and TV. My specialty is world music but am equally comfortable and capable in other genres such as rock, pop, and electronica to name a few.
Teaching: I like my students to have a successful and fun experience from the very first time I meet with them. Rather than having one method of teaching, I always cater my lessons to what each individual student likes musically and and go from there to get into technique, theory, and other topics. I teach mainly guitar and also work with songwriters and singers and teach most styles. All ages and levels of proficiency are welcome.
I perform in front of audiences with my band and even solo, playing music for them, and traveling to all kinds of places, doing so. As a producer, I get to help artists find their musical destinies and guide them in the process. As a teacher, I experience the joy and wonder of my students, discovering new things on their instruments or with their voices. What could possibly be a more enjoyable way of spending my life?
