About this pro

How does your business stand out?

I excel at obedience training and can teach a dog to walk on a loose leash, by the owner's side, in less than 5 min. My obedience methods are extremely effective. I also work with dogs who have aggression and socialization issues. I take on cases that a lot of trainers are unsuccessful with because they don't have the type of training and experience that I have and they aren't willing to use the training tools necessary to rehabilitate dogs with severe behavior issues. Most of these dogs can be rehabilitated with the correct training tools and methods and owners who are willing to put in the time and effort to help their dog achieve balance. I have the knowledge which is backed by over 12 years of experience and I have completed nine hours of behavior modification college courses which is six hours more behavior education than veterinarians receive during their training.

What do you enjoy about the work you do?

I enjoy helping people improve the behavior of their dogs. Many times I am the dog's last chance at life. Many times I am the one to create peace in the household. And when I see the dog start to become balanced and truly happy and I see the owners genuine appreciation for what I have taught them it makes it all worth while. It keeps me motivated to work hard every day to educate dog owners and to change the lives of problematic dogs. I just want to help people and their companion animals!!!

    Thanks so much to Karen
Karen did an amazing job figuring out our fearful "hoarder" rescue dog. Lefty is now traveling by car and going to the dog park - an entirely new experience for him - and he is stretching his horizons day by day. We are so excited to see that he might just be able to do normal dog things!!!

We have been through 6 trainers for our aggressive dog, it seemed like we weren't getting anywhere and we were at wits end. Karen is number 7. Lucky number 7 it seems. We are amazed after one session. We worked with her for a little over two hours our first session and already understood why she is the one that really knows how to figure our dog out. We didn't believe we would ever be able to keep Ellie due to her extreme fear aggression, but now we have hope for her.

Ella was angel when I was home but the second I left her for work, she would do everything in her power to escape the crate. She tore through 3 metal crates as well as my carpet (not to mention I tried every calming trick in the book; feeding her in the crate, thunder shirt, music, rewarding her, nothing worked. Karen saved my life! With just one visit she was able to identify that Ella has containment issues and she may not be misbehaving due to separation anxiety. I have put her in my spare bedroom with a baby gate in the door way and she has been an angel since! Thank you Karen!

Karen has done an excellent job of working with me and my dog on our issues. I was at a loss of what to do with him and she swooped in and got us right on track. I would recommend her and wouldn't want to train with anyone else after meeting with her. Her techniques work. If you are struggling with behavior issues with your dog, don't hesitate to call Karen.

Thank you for the wonderful review. I have enjoyed working with you and your dog and I'm confident that with a bit more work he will be right on track!

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
It varies depending on distance and number of dogs being trained
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Educating the client on dog behavior and evaluation of the dog. Training begins afterwards. Client packets are given for further information on canine psychology and as a reminder for the training techniques used during the lessons.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a professional member of IACP, which Cesar Millan also belongs to, and 8 months of training under Vladae Roytapel. Vladae's credentials can be seen on his website socaldogtraing.com. I have also completed 9 hours of behavior modification college courses and passed with a grade of 97%. I also train dogs for Invisible Fence and I'm certified in the Perfect Start system which was created by a panel of certified behaviorists and veterinarians.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
before I was a trainer I had issues with my own dogs. I hired the best trainer in Michigan, Vladae Roytapel, and he was so impressed with my ability to follow instruction and to train my own dogs that he hired me.
What types of customers have you worked with?
I have worked with all types of customers. I have worked with professional athletes from all Detroit teams, prominent newscasters in the Detroit area, Monsignor Easton from the Shrine of the Little Flower in Royal Oak, MI and many other clients including Art Van and Mr. Meade (Lexus).
Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
I help out several rescue groups. One dog, a Chow / Golden mix, was going to be euthanized due to severe human aggression. I did a bootcamp for 2 weeks and I turned him into an amazing dog. I can get a testimonial from the rescue group if needed. He was adopted and never showed ANY signs of aggression again. You can view his picture in my media portion of my profile. He's standing next to the red Harley;)
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
A dog trainer must be willing to embrace all types of training methods available and be able to use them appropriately. Each dog is different and may require several different training techniques. If you have an aggressive dog be sure to seek out a trainer who specializes in all types of aggression and is not afraid to work with or handle these types of dogs.
What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
They should think about the time and commitment it takes to train their dog. There is no magic wand. Trainers teach you what to do and work with the dog during lessons. But the client must put in the time and effort every day.
