- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
For Fixed pricing I have to obtain enough information about the job to give a reasonable quote. Many requests that come in do not have enough information about the job. I always send my cell number with my quotes so that a customer can call me to discuss the job and gain some insight into my expertise. For hourly quotes the rate is usually $50/hr with a minimum of 1 hour. I do not charge mileage so keep this in mind when reviewing my quote since I may have to travel 25 miles or more each way for the job. I usually give discounts of 50% for the first hour if the customer brings the equipment to me to be repaired. All quotes do not include parts or equipment unless specifically stated in the quote. For longer term projects such as Handyman Work on an as-needed basis, I can provided a reduced hourly rate depending on the extent/occurrences of work sessions.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I typically prefer to speak with the customer over the phone to gather additional information about the project. In the case of an hourly rate quote it gives me the chance to better estimate how much time it should take to complete the job. This is of benefit to both the customer and myself. During the phone call the appointment schedule can also be worked out if the customer agrees to hire me for the job. The phone call is also the best time to arrange the form of payment for completion of the work.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a retired Mechanical Engineer Licensed as a Professional Engineer. I have mostly On-The-Job training on all Handy Man and IT work. I have been building my own computers since the early 1990's including upgrading Hardware and Software. For 2 years I supported 150+ Technicians with laptops in their trucks. 95% of this support was remote access to their laptops, printers, scanners and network using a remote access tools to run their laptop from my office. I have another year of on-site support for customers with Desktops, Laptops, Printers, Routers, Wifi Access Points and Surveillance Cameras. I am proficient with most Microsoft Office Applications.
