Introduction: At Fido and Freud, we combine our background in Animal Behavior/Training and Clinical Psychology. We take into account all aspects of your dog's health, home life, history, and relationships with both humans and other pets. No two dogs are the same, and each pet is catered to based on the training plan we formulate together. I can't say enough good things about Nachwaechter German Shepherds. From the start Lindsay has been so informative and helpful. When it was time to pick a puppy she helped decided which one would best suit our lifestyle and he has been nothing but perfect. Her and John took him for their board and train program and he is so obedient and sweet. They were patient with us on learning all of his commands and followed up often and even took him back to further his training because they wanted him perfect for us. You guys have really been amazing and I can't thank you enough for being so supportive and accommodating to our individual needs. It's apparent your true love for the breed and thank you for all of your kindness and wisdom with my boy.

Amazing!! I couldn't be happier with the training my two shepherds recieved. They are wonderful off leash, I can bring them anywhere! I get compliments on how well they are trained all the time. If you want high quality training of your dog you've found the perfect place. I would and will take all my future dogs here. Titan (17 months when trained) and Layla (7 months when trained) are still well behaved and listen. Yet act like dogs, they still have their own personalities, that was no broken from them in training as some other trainers have done.

I live several states away, but Lindsay is always responsive and helpful with any questions or concerns I have on my pup. We are training in IPO and she has been a great resource for learning about the sport and always eager to hear about our progress. I am so happy we found her!

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
We prefer to have an evaluation with a prospective client in the client's home in order to meet the dog in their natural environment, and see the family dynamics in action. During this evaluation, we work as a team to understand the dog, and his "pack". We then formulate a training plan together that everyone is comfortable with.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Through my psychology career and dog training career I've developed skills and assessment techniques to get to the root of each dog's unwanted behavior to truly understand each dog's thought process. This enables me to develop a training program that is truly personalized to each dog and brings out their ful potential. Additionally, I continue to learn and expand upon my own training skills by staying abreast of new trends and advances in training; I learn though coaches/trainers, seminars, and am constantly fine tuning and developing my own skills. Just like the dogs, we as trainers never stop learning!
How did you get started doing this type of work?
I grew up with dogs and rode and competed in local hunter/jumper shows with my thoroughbred mare, Breeze. After graduating from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaigm with an undergraduate degree in psychology, I began training my chocolate and yellow lab. While in college, I had begun researching German shepherds and the sport of schutzhund (IPO), a three phase dog sport consisting of tracking, obedience and protection. I bought my first German shepherd several years later and began training her and my subsequent shepherds in schutzhund. I continued my career in psychology, attended graduate school, and continued to combine my love of psychology and animal behavior/training with my own kennel, Nacjtwaechter German Shepherds. I have bred many litters of working line import bloodline German Shepherds, continue to train in the sport of schutzhund, and have taught group classes, board and train programs, and private lessons for the pups I have bred, and a variety of other breeds of dogs as small as Yorkies! :-)
