FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I generally charge $25-30 per hour. For some more elaborate projects, I will name a set price ahead of time, so that you will know what to expect.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
For custom garments, it's first important to get an idea of what you have in mind and what styles work best for you. I am happy to input design suggestions, and can help you get an idea of how to create your dream costume or garment with your budget. Next, I begin creating a pattern, and we have a fitting to make sure it has a custom and flattering fit. Then, the garment can be created using the fashion fabric, which will then require another fitting to make sure everything is fitting and looking as you imagined. Once the garment is reading to be completed, finishing details make it the perfect custom piece for whatever your special occasion is. For most alterations, only one fitting is required, where together we find what fit works best. Then, the garment is altered and brought to you in a timely fashion and we make sure the final fit is exactly to your liking.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been sewing for over 10 years. In high school, I went to a performing arts school where I learned sewing and pattern making techniques to design and create costumes for theatre performances. My senior year, I taught sewing lessons to students age 13. I then went on to study Fashion Design at the Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC, where I also studied abroad for a year in Florence at the Polimoda Institute of Fashion. After completing my AAS, I worked in professional theatres around the country for 3 years, while also managing my own design business and creating custom orders. Currently, I am studying Cosume Design at the California Institute of the Arts.
