FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I price my lessons very competitively. I give individual attention and work cooperatively with each student. If I work with a couple, I charge a little bit more (to cover extra work in dealing with assignments and readings) but far less than a double fee. I have a very reasonable cancellation policy. I accept cash, check (with ID the first time), PayPal and Venmo payments.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I like to talk by phone or email with each student to learn what they have done in the past (with Spanish or another language), what type of learner they are and what techniques/styles have worked (or not worked) in the past, and what their goals are (travel, work, conversing with Spanish-speaking family members, etc.). I try to get a sense of their work and "real life" schedule and pressures to see what will work for them and what pace makes sense. For example, if someone is working 2 jobs, I know that they can't do a lot of homework. If someone has a strong visual sense, I know to incorporate more handouts. If someone is an auditory learner or has reading challenges (such as dyslexia), I know to focus more on oral/speaking work.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a degree in Spanish from Bucknell University (cum laude and with honors in Spanish), and was elected to Sigma Delta Pi, the national Spanish honor society. I have traveled and have used Spanish in various industries, including medical, business, and non-profit community service. I worked with a Latino social service agency and helped develop a joint project between it and a business empowerment agency to help with voter registration and education. I have taught Spanish in school and incorporated it into music classes and after-school clubs. I've also done some proofreading of written materials for authors and businesspeople.
