FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Before going to solar my hourley rate was $60.00, however I realize times change and I may not be as fast as I once was so I now charge $45.00 per hour. I will also be happy to bid a job, depending on whats involved. As I had mentioned I would prefer to do small Handyman jobs now.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Introduction, then educating the customer as to the particulars of the job they wish to accomplish. I find that unless the customer has an extensive background in the building trades they usually underestimate what is involved with a particular project. Then if the customer is comfortable with moving forward I will likely bid the job.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I come from a large family by todays standards, I am the youngest of six, my father was a building contractor long before I was born and remained in that business until he retired when I was 11. All of my older male siblings, and my cousins were carpenters so it was only natural I follow suit. I build my first structure with my dad at age 14. I have built 28 houses from start to finish, I have done approximately 8 whole house gut and remodels, I have done 8 roof off remodels building second floors on these homes. I have done well over 100 kitchen and bath remodels, I have built and finished somewhere around 60 sets of stairs of all types, I have built maybe 90 decks and farmers porches and countless garages from small single car 12 x 20 to a monstrous 32 x 60 garage with 16 foot wall height and everything in between. I owned a building company in Ellsworth Maine for 14 years where I built some huge beautiful post and beam homes on the water. At that time I had 21 full time employees and 4 part timers. My experience is vast and my knowledge of building is all encompassing. For the past 15 years I have been doing mostly additions, kitchen and bath remodeling and the like however, 3 1/2 years ago I left the building trades for a desk job for a national solar company, I do like the job and will likely stay with the company but I find myself bored and I have plenty of energy and daylight left in a day not to use it doing what I love to do.
