FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Private lessons in my studio are ordinarily $20/half hr, $28 for 45 min, or $35/hr, with discounts for group lessons or packages of 1, 3, 6, or 9 months of lessons. If I'm travelling to your house, I'll charge a bit extra to cover travel time and expenses. Lessons can be weekly or twice weekly, dependent on student interest and progress. Prices for accompaniment, events, weddings, and church services are negotiable.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
For lessons, after discussion by email and/or phone, I have an introductory (complimentary) session with a student, either in my studio or their home. I'll assess their current level of piano knowledge, find out what they're most interested in learning, and discuss a path of musical education goals with them (and their parents!) If we agree we're a good fit for one another, we'll work out a weekly or twice-weekly schedule for lessons. For accompaniment/performances, I'll want to know the dates, times, and sort of repertoire you're planning on using. If I'm unfamiliar with the repertoire, I may ask to take a look at the music before accepting the job, to make certain it's within my ability to learn in the timeframe requested.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I'm completing a B.M. in piano performance at Old Dominion University. I've worked as an accompanist and rehearsal pianist for 5+ years, accompanying solo vocalists, solo instrumentalists, musical theater productions, and choirs. I currently work for Christopher Newport University, Eastern Virginia School for the Performing Arts, Bayside Christian Church, and Camp Arena Stage. I've taught private piano students from ages 5 to adult, and currently work as a substitute piano instructor at Centerstage Academy.
