FAQs
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
It is important to me to get to know my students in person – before I begin the first lesson – in order to better understand each student's personal needs. This helps me to form a lesson plan that is specific to the student's level, experience, learning style and objectives in cello playing. I am dedicated to serving my students and helping them in any way I can. While lessons will usually happen once per week, I make a point to keep in consistent contact with students between lessons, over the phone or by email.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a graduate student at Bard College Conservatory of Music studying cello performance with cellist Peter Wiley. While I am studying performance, I strongly believe that teaching is an essential part of musicianship.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
My first teaching experience began when I was in high school. While my high school had no strings program, the middle school and elementary school students had the option to join small string ensembles on either violin, viola or cello. I was given the opportunity to assist the middle school strings teacher in coaching the ensemble and gave private lessons to the cellists who were part of the group. These lessons evolved into at-home lessons and I began to teach more lessons outside of school. For me, teaching is just another way to share music with others.
