Introduction: My music lessons provide the student with a wide variety of tools and knowledge to learn a new instrument or build upon their own musicianship to take their skill and appreciation of music to the next level. The student/parent's goals my primary focus. I make sure my student understands the music theory behind what they are playing as well, and if the student/parent does not know what their goals are, I focus my approach on a general all-encompassing method that provides the student with the skills they need to achieve their future musical goals. The most important aspect, however, is to enjoy playing music, and I always keep this in mind when teaching.
Music is my passion and teaching others to tap into their own potential musical genius truly is a joy. It feels like I am doing a service to my students and to the world at large by teaching music to the young and old.

Mr Stephen is such an amazing teacher. I really like his teaching method which works perfectly for our 6 yr old, Jayden. He's incredibly patient, understanding, flexible and wonderfully skilled at what he does. He is very encouraging and his teaching motivates our son to keep practicing .Our son has now learnt a variety of basic techniques and gained a lot of confidence in handling the instrument.He has an innate ability in making complicated things look easy ,approachable and fun for beginners. Our son looks forward to his guitar lessons every week.
We would highly recommend Mr Stephen to anyone who would love to learn to play the guitar at the beginner or advanced level.

I have been playing guitar for close to 40 years and perform paid gigs regularly. I am also a full time educator for Montgomery County Public Schools. Everyone regardless of their level can benefit from good instruction, so I turned to Stephen. I was looking to advance my knowledge of jazz theory and improvisation. I had heard Stephen perform and was blown away by his excellent technique, and style. But what impressed me the most was how his own musical voice came through. His creative, bold, yet graceful improvisations kept me wanting more, but were never self indulgent. His playing complimented the other musicians in his ensemble and left them space to express themselves. So I set up several lessons with Stephen. Before the first lesson, Stephen asked what I wanted to learn and what my goals were, and on the first lesson, he was prepared with some progressions and ideas that were exactly what I was looking for. His knowledge of theory is deep and he was able to communicate his knowledge effectively. Stephen was patient, encouraging. He gave me time to explore the ideas we discussed through improvisation. Our lessons were part consultation, and part jam session which is exactly what I was looking for. I highly recommend Stephen as a teacher and performer...

I only took one lesson from Stephen, but it gave me a great impression. Stephen plays great jazz guitar solo. Also he is very patient when teaching guitar beginners. Hope to see you again Stephen

Great experience! I took Stephen Leas Basic Guitar Class and feel like I learned so much. I had always wanted to learn guitar since being a teen but never had the opportunity. I would highly recommend Mr. Leas to anyone who would like to play an instrument, he is very knowledgeable, patient and as a grad student from the University of Maryland Dept. of Music, has the education, methods and experience to help you develop your musical talents.
