FAQs
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been volunteering at the Castaic Animal Shelter for over 3 years. The process of becoming a volunteer at any LA county shelter includes an orientation, at least 15 hours of shadowing, an online course and test, and an evaluation at the shelter. I also received last year's L.A. County Youth Volunteer of the Year award for animal care and control.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I've always been interested in animals and became a volunteer at my local shelter as soon as I was able to apply.
- Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
Recently, county shelters held an event called "Clear the Shelters" that was advertised and spread through social media including news outlets. Each shelter came together to get as many animals adopted that day as possible. I participated in the event at the Castaic animal shelter and we were able to get 61 animals adopted. The total amount adopted from the 6 LA county shelters was 238, so it was a very successful day for everyone.
