Introduction: For the past 30 years, I have worked primarily in the residential construction and remodeling trade. I do not consider myself a "handy man" or "jack of all trades", nor even a contractor. I am a hands-on carpenter/remodeler. I am adept at most aspects required to construct or transform a home, but if and when necessity, safety, or building codes require, I contact fellow skilled tradesmen for assistance with plumbing, electrical, HVAC aspects, etc. I perform the overall construction of the project and they perform their specialized tasks as required. After the initial introduction, they deal directly with the customer. I do not mark up or profit from their billing. We each carry the required insurance coverage for our specific fields. I believe it is good business all around, and we want repeat and "word of mouth" future business. I believe in good work for good pay, and as it is written, "Godliness with contentment is great gain"... I count it a blessing to still enjoy what I do to earn my daily bread and I still get excited by a new project...(though at 59 I don't jump as high as I used to). I still learn something new every day; perhaps a tweak to a technique, or insight into a product characteristic. For as long as I can, I truly want the work of my hands to reflect gratitude unto The Lord, and reflect and promote Christ's Peace in all aspects of this life possible. But just for clarity...I don't promise or claim perfection in any shape, form, or fashion, but I think it's good to strive towards that ever upward goal in all things. I reckon that's enough about that...

Mr. Lewis did a wonderful job. I only had a few drawers that were made with particle board that were crumbling. Not only did he reconstruct them with the proper material but, stained them to match the others. Fair, honest great to work with

We had a new construction home and James Lewis was an authorized dealer/installer of Onyx products for our 2.5 bathrooms. He installed a custom walk in shower and a double vanity top in our master bathroom. He installed Onyx vanity tops in the other two bathrooms. The fit and finish work in the walk in shower met all our expectations. His attention to detail was exceptional. James Lewis was courteous and willing to work with our ideas. James took a bare wall in my laundry room and turned it into a custom pantry. The result exceeded my expectations. James converted my wish list into custom oak shelves tailored to my specs. He exactly matched the stain color of the new shelf to my existing cabinet. James designed and installed oak slab floating shelves to compliment the pantry shelve. His work area is impeccably neat. He is on time and sticks to budget and schedule. I highly recommend James for custom cabinets and shelving.

Project #1 My anticipated project was to completely transform a wall space, In my garage, for a storage closet that could be Inclosed with doors. Mr. Lewis meticulously sketched a plan on paper with all dimensions necessary to fit the space given, calculating cost of materials,labor, and a projected length of time to complete the job., while devoting much attention to structural detail, making sure that the finished product complemented the already existing structural design of the garage itself. Good communication was key throughout the project, and I was pleased that Mr. Lewis would update me on a daily basis as the project progressed. I was greatly pleased with his well thought out plan, attention to detail, and his level of professionalism. Project #2 Maximizing more space in an existing master bedroom closet was project #2. Mr. Lewis drew a design to completely transform a large closet space with wire shelving into a closet with customized wood shelving with expanded hanging space as well. Track lighting was installed to replace single light fixtures to allow for better lighting throughout. In order to complete this project, Mr. Lewis did all of the electrical, sheetrock, carpentry, and painting himself. I am completely satisfied with the workmanship and completed project.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I generally look at a project and estimate according to experience and research if necessary. I do sometimes work strictly by the hour, which in some cases better suits the situation for all involved. My hourly rate for skilled labor with necessary tools is a minimum of $40.00. I charge a lesser rate for material selection and pickup, etc in such a situation. I keep a fair tally of such costs, but in a bid I would have it figured in as best possible. I do not mark up material costs..we are already paying for enough "fingers in the pie" so to speak...(My humble opinion...)
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
(A) Listen to what they want (B) Look at where they want it. (C) Decide if it's possible and how to accomplish it. (D) Put $ amounts with the plan (E) Present those conclusions and listen to their response (F) Rethink/figure if necessary (G) Come to a financial agreement and terms (H) Commence with project...
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Just to avoid a blank space, I suppose I could truthfully say I've been enrolled in ongoing studies with the American University of Blue Collar Survival...majoring in Residential Remodeling.
