As a seasoned performer, I understand that there are many different styles of music out there that singers want to perform. Because of my classical vocal background, I have studied extensively the mechanics of how the voice works. My years of experience as a classroom music educator help put that knowledge to work for singers of any age group and in any genre. I also have a nurturing, encouraging teaching style that puts students quickly at ease. This gives them a learning environment in which they can feel free to make mistakes and to learn from them as they develop confidence in their own ability. I love sharing the joy of making music with students of all ages and seeing the self-confidence they discover in learning to express themselves through their singing.

Heather Batey has saved me in many ways, she has improved my singing immensely, she has gotten me superiors at traumbaur, she got me into Allstate and the musical at my school, but most importantly she got me into the music program at montevallo with a scholarship. I owe all of it to her, she really is an amazing voice coach. 😊😊

One of the best things that ever happened to my daughter, Natalie, was having Heather Batey as a voice/piano instructor! She was immediately able to establish a genuine connection with her while also identifying Natalie’s strengths and recognizing areas that needed work. As soon as she started lessons with Heather, I began seeing vast improvement in her confidence and vocal abilities as together they explored her range and natural talent in a way Natalie had never done before. She is a pro at encouraging her students to realize their full potential. While one of heather’s students, Natalie was accepted in to the Alabama School of Fine Arts (ASFA) Music Program for voice and Heather was a blessing during that process, especially for a non-musical parent like myself! Heather guided us through the rigorous audition process and let us know what to expect at each stage, while also teaching Natalie piano, to the extent that she could play beautifully in just a matter of months. While under Heather’s tutelage, Natalie was able to participate in competitions, festivals, and recitals that helped develop her skills and boost morale. Heather is a wonderful instructor and I am incredibly grateful for what she has brought out in my daughter. They formed a bond that I’m sure will last for years to come. I cannot praise her enough for the passion she has when it comes to teaching! She brings with her an infectious energy that is sure to motivate her students.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I offer a regular academic year / semester pricing plan that suits most traditional students of voice, whether teens or adults. This allows long-term vocal growth and development, with a moderate budget for families. I also offer a more intensive, short-term or occasional lesson plan that is more suited to commercial singers who are working musicians, with a separate pricing structure. What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
With new students, we will discuss your goals and interests and vocalize at the piano a bit to determine your comfortable vocal range and pitch matching ability; then we will develop some targeted warmups and vocal exercises tailored to your specific needs. You will go home with a recording of each session to help you practice on your own.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Attending professional conferences is a wonderful part of being a voice teacher. I love meeting new colleagues and sharing ideas with them, and hearing new music and wonderful singers. I always come away from these experiences refreshed and energized about my own teaching, and excited to share what I've learned with my students.
