As a college student studying Spanish, I wanted to know everything I could about the language. I attended the health care interpreter training that was hosted by DSLS in March 2011. Not only did we learn certain phrases and vocabulary, but we also learned about cultural sensitivity and how to be an advocate for patients. Our instructor was knowledgeable and hard-working. A month after the training, a Spanish-speaking child hurt himself at my church. Because of my training, I was able to assist the child and the child's family. Without the health care interpreter training, I would not be as equipped to deal with the situation. Thanks, Deep South Language Services!

FAQs

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

All of our interpreters, translators, and instructors are trained, qualified professionals. Many of our interpreters hold certifications in legal or medical interpreting.

  • What types of customers have you worked with?

We work with all types of businesses and government agencies, nonprofits, courts, attorneys, police departments, and individuals who want to learn a language or become a professional interpreter.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Always make sure your interpreter or translator has had training and experience in the field. Just because a person is bilingual does not mean they will provide accurate and neutral translation services. All of our interpreters and translators have training in ethics, neutrality, memory skills, and specific vocabulary in each field.
