- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I prefer to see a sample of the project you would like for me to edit and I will give you a set price. Simple copyediting for advanced authors can be as inexpensive as $2.50 a page. Line editing or developmental editing where I have to revise and really provide some solid help to you will run from $4 a page up. Special projects or very short projects may be charged by the hour which is usually between $30 to $60 an hour with a minimum of $90.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
We need to find out about each other. Authors and editors work together as a team with the author being by far the most important member. I will ask you to send me a short sample of your work. This will help me prepare a fair quote for you. I don't want to overcharge anyone, but some forms of editing require a lot of work on my part. I try to find out what exactly you are trying to accomplish with your written work. Everyone writes for different reasons. A good editor adapts and takes your reason into consideration when suggesting changes.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been a writer since I was six years old. It didn't take me long to realize I didn't know much about it, so I decided to study and learn as much as I could. I have a degree in English, a masters degree in Reading, and a doctorate degree in Curriculum and Instruction. I interned at the University of Arkansas Press and attended film school in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates. I am an award-winning poet. I have attended countless workshops and conferences on writing and editing and have presented papers at many of them. I've been editing papers and books of every kind for over 40 years. I've written or co-authored over 20 books in several genres and had professional and popular articles and chapters published in numerous journals and edited volumes. The thing to remember is that I am also a teacher which means I truly enjoy helping others do well and I am very used to working with beginning writers.
