Introduction
I teach from the perspective of a performer as well as an educator. I have a wide variety of experience teaching privately and in groups. I consider the learning style of my students and select the method that I think will best suit them. Helping students learn concepts that allow them to read music quicker, with an emphasis on sight-reading, and seeing them actually use these concepts to read music better and quicker.

FAQs

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I attend monthly meetings of the Music Teachers Association of Central Arkansas where we have programs that keep us up to date, and workshops with well-known clinicians. As a member of Music Teachers National Association, I receive their bi-monthly "American Music Teacher" Journal that contains excellent articles and updates. I also subscribe to Clavier Companion which focuses on specific teaching techniques and piano news.

  • How did you get started doing this type of work?

I started taking piano in second grade and loved it, then started flute in sixth grade and loved it. I really never considered doing anything else.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Beware the lowest price - you usually get what you pay for! Expect to pay more for more highly educated teachers, but realize that we can teach students through college level playing. Be sure you're willing to drive as far as the teacher is from you for the committed time.
