Introduction: Instead of encouraging current design trends or specific color palettes that appeal to me personally, my approach to designing a home is to gather pertinent information from the persons who are living there to determine their personal tastes...what appeals to them, what personal items they've collected that they want to incorporate such as artwork or travel finds, as well as what specific needs and wants they may have. For example, a client may want bold, stimulating colors and lots of gathering room for frequent lively dinner parties or they may yearn for a more calm, peaceful atmosphere to meet their desire for a quiet sanctuary in which to unwind at the end of a stressful day. My ultimate goal is to meet the client's expectations by creating a personalized environment that provides comfort and is functional for the unique persons living there. I accomplish this by generating design ideas based on the client's lifestyle and personal likes and dislikes and ultimately develop a design concept that meets with the client's approval.
I get a lot of joy out of taking a space that is lacking in cohesiveness and visual interest and breathing new life into it by applying basic design elements and principles such as appropriate scale, good proportion, and smooth rhythm to restore balance and harmony. It's amazing how using good design techniques can transform a dull, lifeless room into a beautiful space with variety and unity. Most people have difficulty with knowing where to start to create the look and feel they crave. That's where my experience and training come in. I can help you acheive it!
