Violin Lessons

I HIGHLY recommend Hammer & Strings Conservatory!! I struggled for many weeks to find a violin teacher during this COVID19 pandemic. I found thumbtack and was able to get in contact with Hammer and Strings. Everyone has been so great and responsive! Normally the lessons are in person but with the pandemic going on all music teachers are transitioning to virtual lessons out of necessity. I was dubious as to whether the lessons would be effective not ever meeting my instructor in person. I have been very pleased with the way lessons are going. I highly recommend this music school. My violin teacher, Cari, has been so great! I can't say enough about her excellent pedagogical skills. Clearly a master teacher, I have been so impressed with Cari's ability to work with me virtually and be so effective at transferring her knowledge to me. I am EXTREMELY happy with my choice to come to Hammer and Strings. I'm sure the other teachers are similarly skilled and competent.

I cannot say enough good about Dr. Karali Hunter and Hammer and Strings Conservatory. The level of professionalism in this school is outstanding. Dr. Hunter is an amazing teacher. Her passion for beautiful music and exceptional teaching is crystal clear. I am an adult student and have taken piano lessons from her for about 4 years. I feel like my piano skills have skyrocketed in that time. The lessons are always jam packed with so much useful information to help improve my playing. I’ve learned so much in music theory, technique, performance, and so much more. Everything Dr. Hunter teaches is detailed, clearly explained, and tailored to my level of experience. There are plenty of opportunities to preform within the school as well as outside recital opportunities which is really helpful in obtaining performing experience. The curriculum at Hammer and Strings is not just learning how to play the notes on an instrument...it’s a much deeper and expansive education. It’s learning how to connect to the music you are playing as well as connecting to the audience when you perform. The school’s motto “Intentional Excellence” is definitely the best way to describe the type of music taught at Hammer and Strings. It’s very apparent that Dr. Hunter takes great pride in the education of all of her students and she holds them to a high standard of accountability and commitment to ensure their progression in their musical development regardless of age or level/skill. This has been the case in my lessons as well as the lessons of my 6 year old son who recently started piano lessons with Dr. Hunter. She has an amazing talent to adapt to the needs of the individual student. I’ve had the pleasure to witness her expertise on both ends of the spectrum...as I am currently her oldest student and my son is one of her youngest...and both experiences are perfectly fit for each individual student and their specific needs while still maintaining and expecting the high standards needed to succeed in instrument progression. I am just so grateful for Dr. Hunter’s teachings and example to me, my son, and all of the students at Hammer and Strings. It truly has been an incredible experience. I can’t recommend this music school enough.

Singing Lessons

I initially was going to have in-person lesson onsite at Hammer & Strings Conservatory but the COVID-19 pandemic hit which led to moving lessons online. H&S is a new establishment and my vocal coach, Leslie Humphrey, is also new to H&S. The whole online delivery of lessons was new to everyone. It isn't ideal and it is tough to get the timing of piano to voice during warmups and rehearsals due to technological limitations on latency but Leslie was willing to work through it with patience and room for errors. Everyone at H&S is warm-hearted and welcoming, truly caring about developing your skills and talents in whichever instrument you choose.
Hammer & Strings Conservatory's reply
Thank you Apichai, we also wish your experience at H&S could have been in-person, but of course, COVID threw everyone for a loop in just about every field. We transitioned as quickly and efficiently as possible to the online system, but there was a learning curve for both teachers and students. Leslie speaks highly of your work-ethic and excitement to learn, and we are glad you came to study with us!

Karali and company are top notch! You won’t find teachers anywhere that are more devoted to their students. If you are passionate about music and want someone that can take you to the next level, look no further. They also are the best with beginners looking to get their feet wet. They have also been very accommodating through this time of uncertainty(Covid-19) and lessons have transitioned to online.
