I offer piano lessons online and in person. I'm also proficient in several languages, including English, Portuguese, Spanish and French.
I’m Dr. Michele Cohen, and I grew up in Salvador, Brazil. My love of piano took me to the States, where I earned a Doctorate in Piano Performance from Indiana University and was mentored by some of the top pianists in the world. I have performed concerts at the prestigious Carnegie Hall and Steinway Hall in New York, the Brazilian Embassy in DC, and the Myra Hess Memorial Concert Series at the Chicago Cultural Center. I have also taught piano classes at Indiana University School of Music and most recently, I have developed a Musical Arts Program at the International Schools in Beijing, China. With over 20 years of experience, I teach students of all ages, from beginner to career pianists.
My winning program takes the very best practices from pianists around the world, and each student will learn perfect technique developed from many years of experimenting! This allows you to play without tension, freely and beautifully at the piano. You will learn to focus on expressive dynamics, emotional connection, and artistic interpretation, crafting a sound that is uniquely your own. You will even learn the secret that makes reading music easy, using my unique interval-based method. Music Theory, History and Improvisation skills are always integrated in lessons in order to expose each student to the vast possibilities of Music as an expressive language.
From the beginning, you will have access to the full-range of the piano. For parents, your children will develop a love and appreciation for music. With time, you will learn the art of improvisation, building creativity and fluency. Many of my students have gone on to win scholarships and professional competitions around the country.
