Hola! I consider myself a "language mechanic" in general because I love to facilitate communication of all types and I ESPECIALLY love to advance communication in Spanish--whether you are just beginning or in AP classes! As a licensed high school Spanish teacher and a "Language Mechanic," I'll step in and take a look at where things stand. Then I will help you "repair"/revise your misunderstandings and polish up your skill sets (listening, reading, writing, speaking). I know what it's like to learn Spanish in both domestic and foreign classrooms. I learned Spanish, my second language, by living with a Spanish family in Valencia, Spain, and by studying at the University of Valencia for two semesters. In May 2019, I finished my 9th year of teaching Spanish in Jr. High and High School classrooms in Ohio. Outside of classroom teaching: o I have taught Spanish as a tutor to children as young as 7 as well as to adult groups--including senior citizens. o I served as a bilingual secretary in a Fortune 30 company's Latin American Manufacturing department. o I have taught Spanish at two global companies. o I also have taught Spanish for a Homeschool Coop and used Google Classroom for support between weekly classes. During tutoring sessions, I utilize the latest and greatest online tools to ensure exposure to all the different sounds of Spanish natives who generously share the secrets of Spanish mastery online. Don't hesitate! Schedule Cheryl today! My daughter has been struggling with Spanish this year and her anxiety surrounding the subject is off the charts. Cheryl is patient and not only knows her subject, but knows students. She read my daughter's needs and had a range of resources/tools at her disposal. She read that my daughter was anxious and not only was a calming presence, but switched tools until she was comfortable. After one lesson my daughter feels like there is hope for her in Spanish! What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I begin by exploring my customer's current knowledge level of Spanish (or whatever they may be seeking help with). Using the insights I gather from the first couple meetings, I then customize future lessons to specifically address their needs/interests.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a licensed Spanish teacher for grades 7-12. My B.A. degree was in education with a major in Spanish. I studied at the University of Valencia, Spain for both semester of my junior year of college. My most recent Spanish course was an advanced Spanish class at Wright State, and it focused on the use of technology in the classroom (and was conducted in Spanish).
