FAQs
- What types of customers have you worked with?
Generally, I make new clients through my plumbing or remodeling services. I will fix a drain, or replace a toilet. Often, I will install walk in tub or accessible shower. If a relationship forms, then I am delighted to be their go to guy for home repair and renovation. I started out as a teen in Philadelphia, working for a historical restoration company. When my children were very young, I worked as an apartment maintenance person for six years so that I could be close by. Fifteen years ago, I began my own handyman service and that evolved into licensure as a contractor, then as a plumber with a specialty. So I can do almost anything, and do it well.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
I advise potential customers to request credentials. You will want the appropriate licensure for your product. A licensed contractor is accountable to the Registrar and that is an additional layer of protection for the homeowner. I also suggest that they call every provided reference, AND look online for comments about the provider to see if there are positive or negative things written about them. Contractors are salesmen first. You may find them likable, but follow the information. I appreciate being hired because someone has a good feeling about me, but I have a long list of references and accomplishments to justify that positive impression. Finally, these are difficult times and money is a huge issue for homeowners. It is for providers, too. A homeowner may be tempted to go only for the lowest price. Understand that contracting is a service based upon a skill set. You get what you pay for. All contractors are not equal and the errors made by hiring a less qualified provider can be expensive and difficult. I am often called in by other contractors to repair botched plumbing or half finished jobs that became too complicated because of unforeseen events. Look ahead.
