We are a full-service surveying business in Southern Arizona, providing all types of surveying including boundary, topographic, construction, A.L.T.A., etc. The principals of Alta have been in the business for over 30 years. Alta has survey records dating back to the turn of the century. These records are valuable in performing boundary surveys in that these survey maps and records are unrecorded and are only owned by Alta.

I have been a professional land surveyor for over 20 years. Services include topographic and land boundary surveys along with ALTA/ACSM land title surveys, photogrammetric and major project control, land splits, legal descriptions, lot line verification/setbacks, lot line adjustment, elevation/flood plain certifications, grading layout, building layout, subdivision/construction layout and substantial conformance certifications. We specialize in using GPS for our land surveys to provide our clients with an efficient and economical solution for their projects. Good luck with your projects. I do large jobs, like schools, and small jobs, like backyard boundaries. I am honest, and my prices are well below my competitors. I work all over the state and California. Due to trade mark issues we had to change our name, formerly know as Precisuon Contractors, we are still the great company we created! Customers have always loved the details that we put into our projects. Every home we work on we treat as if it were our own. I love to create something out of nothing and to see someone very excited and happy about updating his/her home.

I am a small company. I make my own deadlines and deal directly with the client to assure I meet every small detail required. larger companies have one person making deadlines that another person has to complete on time. Larger companies also have one person survey the site and have another person design it. My company does not operate that way. I am involved with every aspect of the project. I am in direct contact with the client, I survey the site myself. I design and draft the plans. I make the submittals. I make the follow up calls, etc.. Larger companies become dysfunction sometimes by allowing too many people with different ideas to get involved with a project. larger companies work 8-5, 5 days a week. I work on projects as they are needed. I don't limit myself to certain days or hours to work on projects. My clients can contact me anytime, day or night and I make it a priority to be available. The buck starts and ends with me. I pride myself on completing every project I start. I like that each and every project is different and has many different aspects that have to be identified, verified and dealt with. Every project has surprises and challenges that sometimes humbles me because it's something I have never dealt with, but gives me great personal and professional satisfaction after I have followed it through to completion. New things are sometimes scary, but in the long run it makes me better at what I do and I get to make new contacts in the process that enables me to foresee the same issues on future projects that I can discuss with the clients and reviewing agency before getting started on the project. Even after 24 years, I still learn new things on every project. Sometimes I learn I completed the project in record time and sometimes I learn that I should have done even more due diligence before starting the project. Zoning restrictions, requirements and reviewing agency requirements are constantly changing and are different on every project.

What do you love about your job?

Land surveying allows me to do a lot of different things, but mainly, it exposes me to a lot of different types of projects. From lot surveys, to house layouts, to multi section breakdowns; there is never a dull moment. One of the biggest challenges for land surveyors is dealing with errors in the mapping process. From incorrect distances on a deed call, to a map which creates overlapping property lines; a lot of what I do involves fixing mistakes.

What or who inspired you to start your own business?

I was in my seventh year of undergraduate studies at the University of Arizona when I was asked by a good friend if I was interested in a summer job as a surveyor. My first job was a boundary survey in the Rincon Foothills, east of Tucson and the job involved a fair amount of hiking. I fell in love with surveying immediately and I never did go back to school after that.

I worked for a number of different local engineering and surveying companies over the years and I finally opened up my own business in 1988. For the first few years, I did everything involved in running a company—marketing, invoicing, drafting, surveying, and bill collecting. It all paid off. I have been a business owner for almost 30 years now.
