I am an adult beginning piano student of Juan's. I couldn't be more pleased. Juan always begins a lesson by asking if I have any questions and listening to me play. He then decides what we should work on. The focus is usually on the process of learning a piece. For example, together we figure out fingering that feels best for my hands. Its fun as problem solving. Juan chooses music well suited for his teaching approach. And the music itself is very enjoyable to play.

Juan Carlos is such a great teacher. He is helping my son learn piano and teaching him how to use his voice properly. He is patient, kind, and clear when teaching my 12 year old who is not very confident yet with his singing. My son is learning how to listen and match pitch. Juan Carlos always finds a teaching approach to help my son understand what to do. I definitely recommend Juan Carlos! Melanie Hernandez

I'm having a great time learning from Juan. I travel about an hour and a half to him from SF as I wanted an excuse to leave the city once a week. But I'm getting a lot out of the lessons and it's worth the long BART ride and walk. Juan is very knowledgeable about music theory and I appreciate his connecting technique and musicality with something theoretical or historical. I have taken mostly piano lessons but I tried out one voice lesson, which was also great. I would like to try another soon.

Having no background in singing at all, Juan worked with me to develop more confidence in singing by teaching me fundamental technique. Each 60-minute lesson started with a warm-up, then we moved on to drills before wrapping up by practicing songs that I chose or Juan recommended. One thing that Juan does well in particular is teaching by feeling; rather than telling you how something is supposed to sound, he emphasizes learning what having correct technique feels like and asks you to remember and call on that technique whenever you are singing. Would recommend.

I have had four lessons with Juan Carlos Zepeda, with sessions divided into voice lessons and music skills (intervals, timing, etc.). Juan Carlos has a way of demystifying how the voice works (head and chest voice, placement, etc.). Each session clears something away and my understanding of the mechanics of it all is increasing. Juan Carlos has a beautiful singing voice, plays piano, and is both very kind and approachable. I highly recommend him.
