    Lynn worked with me for three plus months last year.I was in a very overwhelming and stressful spot. Lynn had the ability to teach me stress relieving techniques to get through my every day feelings of stress. She taught me to take care of myself and to say "no" which has always been so hard for me.     Lynn Ross was amazing at helping me to recover from being sick that caused me a lot of anxiety.     Lynell and I have worked together for the past six months (and counting)! I have worked with other health coaches before and even professionally edited a holistic health coach book, but these coaches' knowledge pales in comparison to Lynell's knowledge and expertise. Lynell is very supportive and is very knowledgeable about health and fitness. However, she goes beyond just your average health coach that's out there. Her coaching comes from a psychological approach, including whole body wellness and stress management techniques, and the word "diet" (as in the starve yourself dieting to lose weight) does not exist when she works with you. She helps you create healthy habits from a goal-setting perspective that are both realistic and produce amazing results. As a result of working with Lynell, not only have I lost almost 20 pounds but I have more energy and feel more focused and organized in my life, especially with my career path. I'm a freelance copywriter who works from home and Lynell has really helped me to really hone into my career goals as well as my personal health and wellness goals. Lynell also has a background working with diabetic clients and is very knowledgeable about diabetes and how to be heart-healthy. She is dedicated to helping her clients prevent heart disease, stroke and type 2 diabetes. She has helped me focus on my sodium intake. In the past, I had issues with on-off again high blood pressure and with Lynell's help and assistance, I've been able to keep my numbers at a healthy range. There is a lot of confusion out there about nutrition and healthy eating and there is a LOT of misinformation on the internet. Lynell's approach is realistic and works in "real life." She doesn't set you up to fail and she's there every step of the way with you. Lynell concentrates on the basics of nutrition so you don't feel overwhelmed. She walks you step-by-step through the goal-setting process and encourages and supports you during each coaching session which gives me confidence and feels like I'm not alone in my health and wellness journey. I'm 44 years old and am dealing with perimenopausal symptoms. Lynell is very empathetic and has shared invaluable tips and information about the types of foods and nutrition I should focus on for healthy balanced hormones. As a woman, I feel like she really "gets" what I'm going through and really listens. I highly recommend working with Lynell. If you feel like you are spinning out of control and don't know how to get your health back on track or want to exercise but don't know where to start, definitely hire Lynell for her coaching sessions. What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I normally work with my clients by phone. We spend the first session creating a wellness vision for your life. We set three month goals and weekly goals. There is power in writing down your goals, in ways that are specific, achievable and measurable. The secret is to make your goals small and simple enough so that you can begin making progress right away. I work with my clients for a series of 4, 8 or 12 sessions to help them achieve what they want.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a Certified Personal Trainer, A Certified Health and Wellness Coach and a Certified Behavior Change Specialist with The American Council on Exercise and the Wellcoaches School of Coaching. I also hold certifications as a Nutrition and Fitness Instructor, a Diabetes Prevention Instructor, a Lifestyle and Weight Management Consultant, A Matter of Balance instructor. I also have been received certifications from Dr. Robert Holden, as a Happiness Coach and in the Enneagram, personality course.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
My mother passed away from a heart attack at age 62. I had also lost both my grandmothers and grandfathers to heart disease. I began searching how to eat to take care of myself and my family. I studied nutrition which led to fitness and when I found out that 80-90% of diseases such as heart disease and type 2 diabetes are preventable through living a healthy lifestyle, I made it my mission to share that message with other people. Stress is now being recognized at a top cause of chronic illness. I first became a Certified Nutrition and Fitness Instructor and a Certified Personal Trainer to help helping people become fit and healthy. But there was something missing. Client's would ask me why it is so hard to make changes. I had to find out, so I became a Health and Wellness Coach focusing on the psychology behind behavior change. I now hold two certifications in helping people make positive changes, creating healthy habits which translate to a healthy happy lifestyle.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Be sure that the person you hire is a Certified Health Coach, a Certified Personal Trainer or a Certified Life Coach through a reputable organization. We are trained to understand the health and safety of the human body and not to prescribe medication or supplements. A Certified Professional will not go outside their scope of practice and will refer you to a medical professional if they are not qualified for your particular situation. A true professional will have your best interest at heart. I aim to provide the best service possible, and always be on time, reliable and honest.
What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
I want people knew that taking care of your health and managing stress does not have to be hard. Everything we do is simply a choice. The key is in managing our thoughts, how we perceive stress, and in learning how to weed out distractions and information from the media that simply isn't true. We get to decide what we eat, how much we move, and what how we choose to react to life. I do not believe in diets to lose weight. I believe in creating a healthy lifestyle that works for each person. We will continue to do an activity or eat foods if we enjoy them. We don't need a lot of exercise equipment, or to spend hours at the gym. We don't need to diet. We do need to understand more about food and nutrition, fitness and what causes stress. We need to understand ourselves more and take time to slow down and relax. Certified Health Coaches, Certified Personal Trainers, Registered Dietitians and Life Coaches are in the field of health and fitness because they care about helping people. The more qualified the professional is, the more accurate information they will have to help you.
