Shawn was incredibly fast and efficient. We had to get the project done right before moving in, and he made it happen. The stairs look beautiful!!

Wanted to give a shout out to Shawn Reed at Rise Above Stairs for his work on my staircase where he installed a baluster. My house is about sixty years old and it came with a single piece iron frame baluster that was not only the epitome of "ugly," it was also no longer in compliance with the city code. Its only redeeming value was it was removable which allowed us to more easily move furniture up and down the staircase. I called a few contractors whose only options were to install non-removable balusters. Shawn agreed to come over and take a look. He came up with an excellent solution, one that solved my removable issue as well as providing me with an absolutely beautiful baluster. He did all his work in less than one day and had someone been to my house the day before and the day after they would have wondered how such beautiful work could have been accomplished in a single day! Shawn also installed a beautiful handrail that replaced the original which again was old and not to code. All this for an extremely reasonable price! Thank you, Shawn!
Shawn was great to work with, we would highly recommend him. He was professional, with clear prompt communication from the start, explaining exactly what he will do. He also helped us greatly with the design choices and even found a solution for covering up some exposed floor from the old staircase. We were really impressed with the finished job.
Shawn is the most professional and punctual person I have met in a long time. His work speaks for itself. I am so pleased with my modern staircase. He got the job done and did not waste any time. I will be referring him to others.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I like to first have a conversation over the phone to discuss project ideas and the client's timeframe. From there I like to see some photos of the existing project as it is along with inspirations photos if possible. Then I like to visit the location with the client to take measurements and further discuss the vision of the customer.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a licensed contractor in California and have been working exclusively in the interior stair handrails and tread industry for over 30 years.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
I started in this trade as a young 21-year-old apprentice looking to learn a trade. 30 plus years later, I still enjoy the trade and it’s craftsmanship
