Greg has now completed 5 jobs for me! I enjoy working with him, as he is very efficient and talented. I have asked for several "unique" wall designs such as horizontal stripes, venetian plaster, and river rock just to name a few. All are designer quality. Greg is very trustworthy and punctual as well. I am so pleased to have found such an amazing painter, and plan to continue using his skills for my upcoming projects!Nov 6, 2015Verified
I was very happy with him. He did an excellent job painting the interior of my home. Due to tall vaulted ceilings it was more of a job then I could do. He completed the job with much better outcome then I could have ever done. I will hire him again.Apr 27, 2015Verified
Greg Spates and his team painted the whole interior of our home. They were on time, efficient and tidy in painting the ceiling flat and the walls with egg shell. They prepped and draped everything before painting (also priming over oil-based paint in the bathrooms and kitchen) and then cleaned up well afterwards. Except for a few drips remaining on windows and the floor here and there, they did an exceptional job for us. Now, our home looks fresh and new.Feb 6, 2015Verified
I hired Greg Spates on September 25, 2015 to paint the interior of my home and to paint cabinets. I caution anyone who is contemplating doing business with this person to keep looking and find another contractor. He quit in the middle of the job leaving poorly painted rooms, untouched rooms and unpainted doors. I have had to pay another painter to finish the work. Additionally, I had to call the Orange County Sheriff's Office and have a Sheriff's Deputy call Greg directly to tell him to return my doors that he had taken from my home and would not return. Greg finally returned them before my deadline before I filed a complaint for theft. This review might sound like this is coming from a person with a personal history with Greg who is just trying to damage his reputation for some reason. However nothing could be further from the truth. I never knew him before I contracted him for the job. I have hired another painter to redo all of his work and the unfinished work at an added cost of thousands of dollars. I can't account for all of the past great reviews that this painter has had on this site but it appears that all of the most recent reviews are terrible. That sums up my experience with this "painter". I would not recommend this "painter" to anyone for any reason. If you choose to contract this person, you do so at your own peril. Don't be fooled by his low bid. In the end it will cost you much more in poor and unfinished work and awful customer service. I had to give him 1 star because there wasn't possible to select 0 stars.Oct 18, 2015Spates Painting's reply
Hi this is Greg Spates owner of Spates Painting. Many statements made by this person are completely false and slanderous are made to hurt my business. As a licensed contractor and a professional painter for over 20 years the only thing I enjoy doing is to make your home beautiful. I hope you take the time to view all my reviews and read about how many customers loved my work and how they enjoyed working with me and my team. Thanks
Cabinet Refinishing and Repair
Greg did a great job giving my kitchen cabinets a make over. He brought them back to life! I would recommend him to anyone looking to restore their cabinet doors. (Excuse the trash can in the photo - moving is a lot of work!)Sep 10, 2018Verified

- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)? Our pricing can vary from job to job every painting job is different because of job condition, how many coats needed, prep time and so on. So to give you the best price and so you can get to know us in person we like to do a in home estimate. Schedule a time today!
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?I like to walk the job with customer to find out what customers want to do, help them choose colors if they are not sure. Go through a plan on how many days the job will take and areas I will work in first, to make it easy on them to live while work is being done.
- Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?Refinished kitchen cabinets. I took light oak finish cabinets and painted them white. It really opened up the kitchen and gave the area a very stylish modern look. Another Painting job was painting an exterior with the wood trim dry and flaky. I made the house look new and fresh again with a complete paint job.
