Thank you so much to Brain who was the officiant on our wedding. We really appreciate all the help along the way till our important day. He had clear vision and communication about the scenario of the wedding ceremony. He listened very carefully on our meetings about our love story and included within the wedding ceremony so it looked very beautiful and personal, and all the guests were impressed. We also really appreciate the help with our vows. Thank you so much Brian for all your input and encouragements. Overall, it was a pleasure to work with him. He was very punctual, patient and professional. We very recommend for a future new weds to work with Brian on their special day.

Thank you so much for sharing your kind words and heartfelt review of my officiant services. I am truly grateful for the opportunity to participate in your special day Anastasia. It was an absolute pleasure working with you and Cody and being able to contribute to the vision and communication of your wedding ceremony. Your love story resonated deeply with me, and it was important to me to ensure that it was beautifully reflected in the ceremony. I'm thrilled to hear that you and your guests were impressed with the personal touches. I'm glad that I could be of assistance with your vows. Crafting meaningful and personalized vows is a significant aspect of the ceremony, and I'm honored to have played a role in that process. Your openness and collaboration made it a joy to work with you both. Once again, thank you for placing your trust in me as your wedding officiant. I wish you both a lifetime of love, happiness, and beautiful memories together.

Brian officiated our wedding in September of 2021 and did an outstanding job. We didn't give him much time to prepare as our initial plan fell through but getting to know each other through a few virtual meetings and an in-person meeting was seamless. He is kind, warm, and positive and got a feel for the couple my husband and I are quickly. This made the ceremony authentic and like he had known us for years. Throughout cocktail hour and dinner he intregrated so well with the group and even knew some of my family members. I would recommend Brian as a top officiant to hire for the Monterey Peninsula, or elsewhere!

Brian was the absolute best wedding officiant we could have ever asked for, and far better than we ever imagined! He captivated the entire wedding for our full 30 minute ceremony, and left all of our friends and family praising him for the rest of the night. He is still continually mentioned when our guests bring up wedding memories! We found Brian online and had read some good reviews, so we reached out. Despite his extremely busy schedule, he immediately responded and asked to hop on a zoom call (this was in 2020). Once we had our first couple, more formal chats over zoom, he asked us to meet up for a drink to get to know us and allow us to get to know him in a more casual way. After just a few short weeks, we felt like we had known Brian for years. That's just his personality, easy to talk to, confide in, and most of all, trust! We had a very unique split between religious and extremely informal families and Brian found a way to tie it all together in a respectful way while acknowledging both parties in a way we didn't know possible. We couldn't have been more grateful for the way Brian tied the entire wedding together, bringing out both laughter and tears from start to finish. We cannot say enough great things about him and were so honored to have him be such a big part of our wedding. Since the wedding Brian has reached out and we will continue to break bread with him to catch up whenever we're in the area.

Brian was our officiant for our casual and untraditional micro wedding affair. He was fun to work with and easy to be around! We were acquaintances before our wedding, but Brian’s warm manner made him part of our extended family… He also quickly understood us as a couple and articulated it beautifully in his presentation and our vows. We are so grateful to him for helping us pull it together so quickly!

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

As an officiant for luxury weddings I point out that to afford a high-end boutique cake it can cost a thousand to several thousand dollars. And yet no matter how good the cake may be it is only memorable in the moment of consumption and the presentation for the photographer. On the other hand your ceremony sets the tone for the rest of your wedding celebration and if your ceremony is engaging and shines light on you as a couple it will be a deeply memorable experience for you and all of your guests for years to come. My experience and my time and my delivery are worth the extra cost. It's as least as good as your cake. There is no charge for our first initial consultation by phone or Facetime. I'm based in Carmel, CA. And so my base price is $500 anywhere from Big Sur to Santa Cruz. I'm often referred to officiate weddings in San Francisco, Silicon Valley, Tiburon, and Napa Valley. The prices range from $700 to $5000 depending on the time of the year, travel, accommodations, and the demand I'm receiving for my work. And if you are having a smaller wedding celebration or elopement during the week my price ranges from $500 to $750.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

Will you help us craft our ceremony? Of course. From the first email inquiry to each planning phone call to in person meetings and all the way to rehearsal and the day of your wedding, I take the time to listen and ask questions that enable me to reflect your love story personally, elegantly, and with some tears and laughter in between. My vision is to revive the art of the personal wedding ceremony so I work closely with you as a couple. We also discuss what nuances or sensitivities to be aware of related to your backgrounds so we can honor family traditions without compromising the values you hold as a couple. I'm here to help you navigate those places without losing the momentum of the arc of your story as a couple. What types of ceremonies do you officiate? All types. What makes your ceremony process unique? I listen. I am a keen observer of what makes couples tick. I live by the poem from Mary Oliver; Instructions for Living a Life Pay attention. Be astonished. Tell about it. My mission is to pay attention to your story, become astonished at how the intersections in your story occurred, and then tell about the brilliance and beauty of your story to you and your guests during the ceremony. Everyone's story is compelling. Tears and laughter are part of all love stories and tears and laughter keep everyone engaged and on the edge of their seats. How long is a ceremony? It all depends on what you want. 20-30 minutes is a sweet spot to aim for. Shorter than 15 minutes is best left to courthouse ceremonies or for a couple who doesn't want their story included in the ceremony. Ceremonies that go 40 minutes and beyond tend to be religiously focused ceremonies that require elements that have been ritualized in a particular faith tradition. How long have you been doing this? Since 1999. I've officiated well over 400 ceremonies.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

What is your background? I graduated with a B.A. in English literature from Dartmouth College and so I love story and work hard to uncover compelling ways to incorporate couples' stories into their ceremonies. I have seminary work from both Fuller Theological Seminary as well as Regent College in Vancouver, B.C. I also have a graduate certificate in leadership development from The Seattle School of Theology and Psychology. I have co-founded a few non-profits and am currently a founding partner of Spero Challenge.
