FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I like to work on a fixed price basis where possible. In my experience, this provides budget certainty to homeowners who are working with fixed funding. Structural engineers can be expensive. I try to tailor my approaches to be sensitive to budgets and costs. Hourly rates make sense for as-you-go work, or services that may be limited in their needs like construction administration services - answering contractor questions and resolving unforeseen conditions, and handling changes made in the field.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
My process is centered around making sure the customer's needs are being met and being responsive to those needs. With every project, I make sure that communications are clear and concise. Typically a design project follows these phases: 1) Project intake and site visit 2) Proposal and acceptance 3) Design work and development of construction documents 4) Submittal to city/county 5) Construction support (as needed) For all projects, listening and understanding are my first priorities. The key part of my process is making sure the customer is happy and is getting what they want.
