Introduction: I tutor elementary age students struggling with reading. I also specialize in teaching children with dyslexia using an Orton-Gillingham system designed for kids with dyslexia. I have been very successful with my kids and am quite passionate about my work as one of my sisters had dyslexia many years ago when there was no help. A child does not have to be officially diagnosed with dyslexia. Catching reading problems at an early age can prevent years of suffering and struggles. I love children and find it so rewarding to see them learn and grow and witness the pride they feel as they progress. Reading is such a fundamental skill that I hope to make a difference in all their academic progress. My patience with and love of children is probably my most important asset.

Maureen is punctual. She always sends a reminder text prior to her arrival. She promptly arrives at my house and is ready to begin tutoring right away. Maureen works well with my 8 year old son who struggles with reading. They progress at his individualized pace to master word parts and units, which leads to him feeling more confident in his reading abilities. She teaches him using various manipulatives: word lists, games, new books, and activities on the tablet. My son likes to earn little rewards from her. Maureen wraps up each session by briefing me on what’s been covered and activities for my son to practice for the week. She is worth every penny and more!

My son is a crazy hyperactive little 7 year old! He doesn't like reading and pretty much would explode in a full blown melt down when it was reading time. I personally hated that "20 minutes a day" and might have dreaded it as much as he did. At the time we didn't know he was dyslexic with possible ADHD. Maureen helped us identify this and helped my son become more confident and comfortable in reading. So much so that he is now always one of the first to volunteer to read in front of his class. She sends him home with reading material more suited to his needs and he doesn't have anymore melt downs at reading time! She also has made ME more confident in helping him. I was at my wits end trying to figure out HOW TO HELP HIM! I am so grateful to her and the help, compassion, and patience that she provides for my little boy.

We have had such a great experience with Maureen! We did not know our son is dyslexic until we began our tutoring process with her (sadly, this is something his school failed to identify). She was able to identify it quickly and started a program for him. She is patient (he is very hyperactive, so this is a huge plus) and caring. She is very accommodating and understanding, as well. Our son is much more confident when reading now and has improved. We highly recommend Maureen!
