Hello. My name is David Gangursky. Thank you for taking the time to read about my instruction. I teach children and adults how to play acoustic and digital piano and electronic keyboard. I can teach beginners, who need to learn the rudiments of the language of music, including playing the correct notes in proper rhythm with satisfying phrasing, to advanced players, who additionally need to untangle complex scores with physically and musically effective fingering and express composers’ musical thoughts through their unique responses to these works of art. Beyond this, I also hope to develop the capacity for discipline, an appreciation for many genres and styles of music, and, eventually, the ability to teach oneself. Lastly, because I strive to develop complete musicians, I help students gain the skills needed to feel comfortable creating their own music. As for styles, I teach beginning to advanced classical piano and beginning jazz with improvisation, blues, and rock/pop. Of course, different styles can be learned concurrently, and this is standard and motivating in the crucial early stages. So, in fact, there is a comprehensive method that students can train from that covers a broad range of popular styles, including improvisation, and adds some classical training. But I use strong methods and study materials for any genre or style a student may wish to focus on. Watching children develop an appreciation for quality music, no matter the style, and the ability to play it is a joy. I also enjoy seeing my older students build the pianistic skills that enable them to play, with appropriate, convincing expression, the music they have longed to perform. It is a privilege to be able to share my hard-earned knowledge and expertise of an art I am passionate about. I believe most people could learn to play piano to at least an early-intermediate level and would find that it’s a deeply rewarding activity. Sincerely, David Gangursky
