Introduction: Being a language teacher for over 15 years, I have endeavored to bring into my language classes both social and cultural elements as a means to create and expand my students' knowledge not only about the target language they wish to learn, but also about the region(s) where that language is spoken. I have a strong conviction that acquiring cultural knowledge aggregates an essential component to the language learning process.
In the classes I teach, I always do my best to cultivate this aspect in many communicative and noncommunicative tasks. The use of resources such as YouTube, short documentaries and films, music and even Skype within the language learning process is of tremendous value as these tools can provide interactive, task-oriented activities that emulate "real-life" scenarios. However, notwithstanding the support that technology can provide, the most relevant component of the learning process is the communicative act. For this reason, I am constantly making an effort to motivate all my students to participate in a very active and attentive manner in the learning process and as stated above, the cultural component is one of the pivots around which many of the real communicative activities develop. Student evaluations are available upon request.
