About
I am a professional tutor with over 15 years of experience teaching children, adolescent and adults in both public and private schools. I received the 2021 Top Educator Award from The America Library of Poetry. I am also professionally trained in dyslexic intervention at Charles Armstrong School in Belmont California in Wilson Reading System, a rigorous supervised training program facilitating dyslexic interventions in children and young adults.
I specialize in one-on-one and group reading improvement with the eventual goal of aligning reading capacities with ELA Common Core curriculum instruction for grades K-12 and Verbal SAT and ACT preparation. I also do college admission counseling and mentoring for all ages.
I have served as a fifth-grade teacher and language specialist at Charles Armstrong School, but I’ve worked as an English Teacher and Drama Teacher to high school students grades 8 to 12. My sessions are rigorous as well as highly creative, often incorporating games to promote engagement.
I have taught as an instructor at Phillips Andover Academy's renowned Summer study program. I have tutored elementary and high-schoolers, master's and Ph.D. Candidates, and creative writers in the genres of non-fiction, biography, and fiction. I am a Ph.D. Candidate at the University of Hawaii, (now residing in the Bay Area) and I hold my master's degree in English & American Literature from Mills College, one of the country’s top English graduate programs touted for its commitment to identity expression and social justice.
I hold my BA in Cultural Anthropology from Brown University and Fordham in the Bronx, where I was a division one soccer player, captain, and Ivy League Champion. I am also a Tennis Academy Director in the Bay Area.
I make my sessions convenient for families by doing in-home sessions, within a 5 mile radius of Emeryville, California, and virtually from anywhere.

"I would like to endorse Scott and Dear Admissions. My son was accepted to all of his choice schools. My son and I had a wonderful experience with Scott. He had a unique ability to give us the whole picture and then help my son focus in on the prompts, gain some personal insight allowing him to better identify and meet the school's objectives. Not only did we enjoy the process, the experience was transformative. My son gained better insight into his unique abilities and how to better express this through his writing. Scott also helped guide him through the Common Application superbly. Thank you, Scott and Dear Admissions."
