I was my first time in a studio, and they were very welcoming. They helped my vocals, beat, and provided me with resources to help move my music career. A great place to start doing some serious work!!!

I am a solo musician who plays many instruments and uses many effects boxes in my recording process. I bounce around from instrument to instrument, I need rigging changes as I do, and I use a wide array of retakes, looping effects, and elaborate production techniques to get the sound I want. Simply put, I'm a challenge to produce. Nathan is one of the VERY FEW producers I've ever worked with who can rise to the many unorthodox challenges of producing my music as I intend. He's very easy going, he "learns your language" quickly in how you try to describe things, and he cares about the outcome of your project sounding amazing as much as you do. He'll give suggestions or he'll let you do everything your way, it's up to you. I've worked with producers all over the United States at high levels in the industry, and I've never met any producer who is this talented and easy to work with, for his price. You get more out of a production dollar with Nathan than any producer in San Diego County, hands down. His studio space is large enough for a band, with a grand piano, drums, bass, guitar, and all sorts of mic options already there. I'm only hesitant to write this review because I don't want the rest of the county learning about him or I'll never get booking time with him! :)

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

Hourly Rate is $60/hr. Discounts are available for booking multiple days Discounts available for clients paying cash.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

Most new clients start with a tour of the space and/or speak with the engineer that will be in charge of recording their project. Getting a feel for both the space and the engineer you'll be working with is a great way to develop comfort in working in the studio. Your engineer will want to get some info about your desires for your project, as well as get an idea for how you'd like your project to sound. If you have some artists you'd like to model your sound after, or a vibe your trying to capture, it's always helpful to be prepared to share some examples of some music you feel best describes your vision. If there are unique elements in your band/production be sure to bring that up with the engineer. A smooth session relies on detailed planning before-hand. Any information you can get to your engineer to allow them to plan things will only help to save both time and money. Those savings also have the ability to allow for more time for the experimentation and spontaneity that can be some of the most enjoyable parts of recording. If an artist decided that Sonic Rocket is the place they want to do their next project, we require a deposit to book time. That deposit is either $50 or 25% of the total cost, whichever is greater. Your remaining balance is due at your session.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

All our engineers have attended recording arts and digital audio schooling. Plus we are all musicians who have been on the performance side of the glass as well.
