Introduction: HI! I'm Matt. I'm an award-winning LA- based pianist, composer, producer, and college professor. I teach classical, jazz, pop, improvisation, sight-reading, music production, and audio engineering. As a performer, I've worked with some of the best -- REO Speedwagon, Engelbert Humperdinck, the stars of "American Idol", "Glee", and "The Voice;" A myriad of notable jazz all-stars including Kamasi Washington, Ira Sullivan, Clare Fischer, Bill Watrous, Eric Marienthal, Pete Christlieb, Ramon Banda and Zane Musa. My compositions can be heard in a multitude of media platforms, from various tv commercials, feature films like Big Momma's House III, various movies on The Lifetime Network, and television shows such as “Bones", “Millionaire Matchmaker" and MTV's "10 on top". Though I am a college professor at Occidental College, I enjoy and am competent teaching all ages and levels. I spent several years at Harvard-Westlake High School coaching their jazz ensembles and teaching privately. I am sought after for my professionalism, adaptability, musical depth, creativity, and technical expertise. As a skilled educator, I seek to seamlessly transfer these skills to my students in a fun and engaging way. I have a beautiful home studio in Los Angeles with state-of-the-art equipment for recording and teaching. For online Zoom lessons, multiple camera angles accurately resemble the hands-on experience of an in-person lesson. (pictures below)

Piano Lessons

Matt is a talented and versatile player and teacher. He has a deep knowledge of jazz theory and piano technique, and adapts his teaching and feedback to my musical interests. I wasn't sure how remote video lessons would work, but he has a professional zoom setup and a great ear, so it's really not a barrier. I'm already noticing improvement and having a lot of fun playing!

I had four weekly piano lessons with Matt and then the pandemic hit and I had to stop. I’m an advanced piano player but I had injuries from over practicing. His suggestions for how to play properly were extremely helpful in healing my hands and shoulders.

"Matt has been teaching my 10 year-old piano for the last year. The transition to “remote” was seamless and she is still thriving. Strong recommend for anybody looking to continue piano lessons through this “safer at home” time."

Matt is the absolute best! He is so patient and so kind! Within only a few weeks he has been able to teach me, a beginning pianist, the true art of piano. I have learned a few songs and have even learned how to read music! Matt is very honest and is all around the best teacher around!

Matt helped me relax and have fun playing the piano again. He catered to my musical interests while sharing performance and relaxation techniques, which made playing feel less daunting and more enjoyable.
