I offer online lessons unless you're in Marin County or in the Bay Area close to Marin.
I adapt my teaching completely depending on my students' abilities. I can provide a curriculum, or we can work on whatever the student wants to work on and improve. The most important thing is that my students have fun!
I am not limited to any one style, I am versatile in Rock, Pop, Funk, R'n'B, Jazz, Afro-Cuban, Brazilian, you name it!
I love helping people achieve their goals and see them grow.

Michael is great. He's teaching me things that I would have never known otherwise and they really help me progress with my drumming dramatically. So far, he's been able to answer any question and quickly address any concern I had. He's a drummer's drummer and it really shows in his teaching. Very happy with him.

He is always prepared and on time. Michael is very knowledgeable and able to explain concepts in various ways. He understands, that as an adult, I may not always have the time to practice so he goes at a pace that works for me. Very professional.

Michael has a very straight forward approach to teaching. Whether it was answering a technique question or developing new ways to manuever around the set, each lesson consisted of my thoroughly learning new information in a practical and very efficient manner. Being a percussionist myself, we naturally have good rapport with the language we communicate with. Michael's way of personal interaction alongside his instrument is certainly one of the best forays into any practice and study of music, for those just starting or already proficient.

I'm having a great learning experience with Michael. He's reliable, flexible, patient, and explains things clearly. He goes the extra mile with follow-up and sources too. Highly recommended.
FAQs
What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I offer online lessons unless you're in Marin County or in the Bay Area close to Marin.
One lesson (55 minutes) is $ 100.
If you are interested in different lengths, please contact me, I am happy to talk about the options.
You are not required to have lessons on a regular basis. Whatever works best for your schedule—whether you want weekly lessons or just a lesson once in a while—you will not be locked in and you only pay for the lessons you receive.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Getting to know one another is very important. It is essential that the student is comfortable with the teacher. I always make sure the student and their parents know that and do not hesitate to let me know of things they would like to do differently. The next step for me is to find out how the student learns, i.e. what techniques work best for them. Some students are more visual, others pick up things more quickly by ear, for example.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I hold a Master of Fine Arts (Jazz Drums) from California Institute of the Arts in Los Angeles as well as a 1.5-Year Diploma from Drummers Collective in New York City.
I also have a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental/Civil Engineering from the University of Technology, Munich, Germany (Technische Universität München, TUM).
