I initially contacted Robert about tiling some ugly concrete stairs leading up to my home and ended up hiring him to do several other larger jobs. Robert and Brian, who has a keen sense of design, have been terrific to work with. They are meticulous, great with details, helpful, pleasant. I will recommending these guys to everyone I know!

Jeff the Painter did a wonderful job painting the exterior of my house. Of the three quotes I got for the job, his was the lowest. Jeff has a contractor's license for painting. The other companies had licenses but the people who held them lived in Northern California or another state. Jeff assigned a crew to paint my house but Jeff inspected daily and worked with his crew so they knew what to do and in what order. The crew was led by Jeremy and all the crew were polite, efficient, fast, and cleaned up as they went along. Jeff was very easy to do business with. If anything he was too relaxed. Where the other painters provided detailed quotes about what they would or would not do, Jeff's quote merely stipulated the number of colors, that he would paint the house, and the price. That doesn't mean he cut any corners. I had forgotten to ask Jeff to paint the frame of my house numbers (address number) a different color from my house. I mentioned it to Jeremy and he offered to repaint it which he did. Overall I couldn't be happier with the way the job was done and the price I paid. I was thinking about repainting part of the inside of my house myself, but seeing what Jeff can do and how quickly has me thinking of hiring him for the job. I definitely recommend that you hire Jeff The Painter for your painting project.

I hired A Fine Touch Painting (Jill Roach) to paint the exterior trim on my house and stain the patio cover. She did an excellent job. I have had the the house and trim painted several times in the 37 years I have lived here, and never has a painter paid more attention to detail than Jill. My neighbors have commented on how great the house looks! She is a dedicated professional with an incredible work ethic. She is also a perfectionist. Staining the patio cover turned out to be a bigger job than she anticipated, but she diligently worked at it until it looks like new again. I will definitely hire her again when I need a painter, and I highly recommend A Fine Touch Painting. It truly lives up to its name.

I found Jeff when my back was against the wall. I'd foolishly invited a house guest while undergoing major repairs at home, thinking the replacement and painting of walls and ceiling in the great room would be much faster than I realized. When Jeff came in to bid the job, previous helpers had bungled the texturing, so Jeff had to remove it all and start from scratch. He completed the job with a day to spare before my guest arrived! Not only did he finish in time, but did such a nice job of smoothing the ceiling, that I had him leave it smooth, reminiscent of the smooth plastered walls in my childhood home. He was also up to the challenge of the much lighter than normal texture that came with the house. Hats off to the artist who knew how to finish the work!!!

Wayne at S&D Brushworks was PHENOMONAL. Seriously, I've had lots of work done on my condo, but these guys were THE BEST. Very professional. Very fast workers. Very fair pricing. They kicked butt on my acoustic ceiling removal, repair, texturing, painting, etc. They knocked it out in two days. This would have taken another company twice as long. They also took great care of me and my tenants. Everything was done professionally, the workers spoke English and communicated with my tenants to let them know exactly what was going on. They showed up early, and got the job done perfectly!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is the best way to remove wallpaper?

There are several proven methods for wallpaper removal; each has its pros and cons, but some are definitely easier. Peeling is usually the least painful, followed by soaking and stripping. Dry-stripping is the next most time-consuming, and steaming the most work. The average wallpaper removal job costs between $360 and $560. The method of removal can affect the cost, as steaming takes longer than peeling and will therefore typically cost more. Peeling wallpaper off is usually the quickest method. To see if your wallpaper can be peeled off, try gently edging up a corner and carefully peeling the paper off the wall in strips. If you can’t peel, then you’ll have to score and strip it, either by dry-stripping or by soaking and then stripping. Plaster walls can withstand moisture and can stand up to soaking and stripping, but drywall should not be soaked. For very stubborn wallpaper, steaming may be necessary, which is time-consuming but effective. If you prefer not to attempt these methods yourself, wallpaper removal pros have the proper tools and experience to quickly take down wallpaper and also repair any damage to your walls.

How much does it cost to remove wallpaper in a room?

The national wallpaper removal cost averages $360-$560, which will typically include multiple rooms. Pros often charge by the square foot to remove egregious wallpaper that is long past its prime. Wallpaper removal cost may range anywhere from 60 cents to $1.50 or more per square foot. A pro may estimate removal costs ranging between $160 and $300 for a medium-sized room. Costs can vary due to ceiling height, and some pros add a skim coat to make repainting or re-papering smoother. Here are some examples of average costs to remove wallpaper:

  • Foyer: 36-120 square feet, $21.60-$180.
  • Powder room: 16-36 square feet, $9.60-$54.
  • Living or dining room: 120-252 square feet, $72-$378.
  • Family room: 192-384 square feet, $115.20-$576.
  • Bedroom: 100-224 square feet, $60-$336.
  • Guest bath: 45-84 square feet, $27-$126.
  • Master bedroom: 168-384 square feet, $100.80-$576.
  • Master bath: 54-160 square feet, $32.40-$240.

Once the old wallpaper is gone, the average cost to install new wallpaper is $240-$350.
