FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
My general rate for tutoring is $20/hour. SAT, ACT, and college admissions tutoring is $75/hour. You will also be charged $2 for every 5 minutes that you are late picking up your kid.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Typically, I prefer to do a pre-interview over the phone to set expectations and see what I can help with. Then, we set times and dates to commence tutoring. I usually recommend tutoring at least once a week. Tutoring sessions can be 1-3 hours. Because of my university schedule, 3-hour tutoring sessions must be scheduled on the weekend. Every hour in a multi-hour session your child will be given a 15 minute break. If a tutoring session ends early for whatever reason, you are not entitled to pay for the scheduled hours not used. However, if the tutoring session ends early and the child cannot be picked up, you must pay a reduced amount for child care purposes. There generally will not be a case where the session ends early. Tutoring will be done in Geisel Library on UCSD's campus.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I completed high school with honors and a 4.2 GPA, earning a 2250 on the SAT (equivalent to a 1540 on the new scoring system) and a 34 on the ACT. These numbers along with my personal essays landed me a spot in the impacted Human Biology major at UC San Diego. I started tutoring as a peer tutor volunteer through the California Junior Scholarship Federation and California Scholarship Federation. These programs were designed for gifted students to help peers that were struggling and taught me a lot about how to approach different types of learning issues. I also peer tutored privately through "Ultimate Tutoring by Teens", a self-created company.
