FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
My rates cover the cost of all books and other materials! I charge a small additional fee for travel to in-person lessons.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
The first session with a new student is a free consultation and trial lesson. I get to know my students as well as possible, so we can formulate a path towards their musical goals that will be exciting and fulfilling. I have the student perform a variety of vocalises/warm-ups to assess their range, strengths, areas for improvement, etc. As much as possible, repertoire selection is done via instant messaging, so that we can hit the ground running in lessons!
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I hold a BA from Pomona College, where I majored in Music with concentrations in Musicology and Composition and minored in Physics. I have over 15 years of performance experience and have received instruction from some of the biggest names in the vocal jazz and choral worlds. I have sung with professional choirs, punk bands, and everything in between! During my time at Pomona, I also proposed and personally developed the curriculum for a reading group focused on mentoring in music. This group brought together faculty and students to discuss readings, listen to guest speakers, and produce tangible deliverables which aid future music mentors. I have also audited multiple music pedagogy courses at the Simpson College Master of Music in Choral Conducting program. I regularly apply the lessons I've learned from these experiences in my own teaching.
